Charlie Taylor Orme, 82

Charlie T. Orme passed away on the morning of September 1st.  He was 82 years of age. He is preceded in death by his father, Hobert Orme and his mother, Bess Orme, his brothers Floyd and Tom. He is survived by his sisters Violet Sikes and Mary Coats, both of Nashville and his brother Bob of Crossville. He is survived also by six nieces and nephews and their children.

Charlie was born and raised in the Sequatchie Valley and spent his whole life on the farm that has been in the same family for over 100 years. He graduated from Homestead High School in 1958. He joined the Tennessee National Guard in December 1963 and retired after serving more than 36 years in the Guard’s medical service. During his tenure with the Guard, Charlie received a number of State and Federal awards, including the Expert Medical Badge. Additionally, he worked for a number of tractor dealerships and was a state ranger in Governor Winfield Dunn’s administration. Finally, he retired from Mountain Farm International where he had worked for a number of years.

All who knew Charlie marveled at his quick wit, story telling ability and his loyal friendship. He was a big talker and it was said “you don’t talk to Charlie, Charlie talks to you.” True to form, annually, Charlie and his sisters attended the Hwy. 127 Yard Sale, at which Charlie knew other attendees in Cumberland, Bledsoe and Sequatchie Counties. Shopping was impeded by his long visit with friends.

His passionate hobby was restoring and showing antique Massey Ferguson tractors. He went all over the country to tractor shows with his lifelong friends, Lindell Agee, Dan Barnett, Larry Warner and Shea Agee.

Charlie has been ill for a number of years and both family and friends assisted in his care. The family would like to thank Lindell Agee, for his undying loyalty to his friend and who saw, daily, to Charlie’s needs, the entire Shadden family,  Darrell Linder, Sonjia Linder, Tonya Reagan, Darlene Ryan, Tammy Kaufman, all of Affordable Assist, and Avalon Hospice.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 in the Chapel at Bilbrey Funeral Home at 1:00 PM with Wayne Shadden officiating followed by burial at Parham cemetery in Pikeville, TN. The Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM prior to the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to Avalon Hospice.
