Cherry W. Daugherty, 70

Cherry W. Daugherty, a lifetime resident of Crossville, Tennessee, passed into Glory on
July 27, 2025, at home and surrounded by family. She was born in Crossville on April
13, 1955, and was recently born again as a believer in Jesus Christ.
Daugherty graduated from Cumberland County High School in 1973, when she was
voted “best dressed” – a title which consistently brought out her signature chuckle and
good-natured eye roll, a quality that underscored her easygoing nature.
Daugherty began working at the Cumberland County Clerk’s Office when she was 16
and served nearly 40 years in local government. She worked as County Executive
Administrative Assistant, Finance Director for the City of Crossville, Cumberland County
Finance Director, Cumberland County Fixed Asset Manager, while finishing up her
career as Manager and Bookkeeper for The Biz Foundry.
Daugherty was an active member of the Elks Lodge in Crossville for many years and
frequently welcomed new members to the community organization. Daugherty was one
of the founding members of the “Kluckers,” who together spent many a happy hour
solving the issues of Cumberland County and its residents.
Daugherty was one of five siblings and is the daughter of Bill Warner and Jeannette
Moore Warner. Daugherty’s brother and sisters will remember her as the quintessential
big sister, someone they could always rely on for guidance with her signature preface
for advice: “I am going to tell you something, but you’re probably not going to like it.”
Daugherty was spirited, fiercely loyal, stubborn, discerning, level-headed, dedicated to
public service and widely seen in local government as a steadfast leader, trustworthy
advisor and mentor to many. She loved the beach and poolside recliners and, like a
flower stretching toward the light, was always happy and peaceful in the sunshine.
A lover of her Jack Russell terrier, Daugherty adoringly referred to her dog, Nellie, as
her baby girl. Daugherty was a very proud mother and a grandmother to two grandsons
who brought immense light, laughter and joy into her life, and who affectionately
referred to her as “Mama Cherry.”
Daugherty is survived by her son, Adam, his wife Jaime, and grandsons Brady and
Tanner; her sister, Carla Devine; her brother, Russ Warner and his wife, Laura; sister
Holly Hill and her husband Steve; step-sister Rebecca Christopher and husband Tim,
her father, Bill Warner and his wife Peggy; and many nieces and nephews, extended
family members and friends who will forever remember Cherry for her upbeat attitude,
kindness, big smile and a bright twinkle in her eye.

Daugherty was preceded in death by her mother, Jeannette Moore Warner; sister Joan
Ryan; brother-in-law Jimmy Devine; and sister-in-law Anne Warner.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Monday, August 4 th , 2025, at Hood Funeral Home
from 1 – 3 p.m. CST, with a graveside service to follow.
