The late Keith Henry, a longtime Coalfield head football coach that made the Yellow Jackets a force in Class 1A has been posthumously honored as Tennessee Titans High School Coach of the Year.

Henry, age 54, passed away December 5, 2020.

“Coach Keith Henry was more than a football coach,” said Coalfield principal Matt Murphy. “He was a husband, father, an assistant principal, a mentor and a friend. He coached and taught the game of football very well but more importantly, he taught life lessons which his players will use forever. He has touched so many lives and will never know the impact that he has had on so many individuals.”

Henry made Coalfield a force in Class 1A as he led the Yellow Jackets to the playoffs all 13 seasons (2008-2020) he was the head coach and Coalfield finished as the 1A runner up in 2014.

The Yellow Jackets averaged 8.8 wins a season under Henry as they won 10 or more games seven times in his tenure (2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2020).

Coalfield had an undefeated regular season this season and finished 12-1 losing last week to South Pittsburg in the 1A Semifinals.

His record at Coalfield was 115-48 and he led to three Semifinal appearances as well (2010, 2012 and 2020).

Henry’s overall head coaching record was 165-69 overall as he was the co-head coach at Oneida with Jimmy May from 1999-2004 as the Indians went 50-21 during that time.

As the 2020 Tennessee Titans High School Coach of the Year, Coalfield High School will receive a grant in the amount of $2,000 from the Titans Foundation to benefit its football program.

Coach Henry’s selection also qualifies him for the Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year award, honoring high school football coaches that display the integrity, achievement and leadership exemplified by the coach with the most wins in NFL history, Don Shula. The Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year award winner receives $10,000 and his high school football program is awarded $15,000.
