CURTIS A. HUMPHREYS, AGE 88

Curtis A. Humphreys, age 88, of Harriman, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 19, 2026.

He was born on February 22, 1938, in Kingston and was a lifelong resident of Roane County.

Curtis was a faithful member of Emory Heights Baptist Church in Harriman.

Curtis was a hardworking man who loved staying busy. Whether he was bush hogging, tending to his cows, or tackling any job that came his way, he found joy in honest work. He was the proud owner and operator of Curtis Humphreys Excavating for over 44 years, a testament to his dedication and strong work ethic.

He had a huge heart and a deep love for animals, especially his horse, Pearl, and his dogs, Bear and Bodhi. Curtis was known throughout the community for his kindness and generosity.

He loved helping his neighbors, friends, and anyone in need. For 11 years, he hosted a community picnic, always encouraging everyone to attend. Over time, the gathering grew to welcome as many as 500 people, reflecting the impact he had on those around him.

Above all, Curtis’s greatest love was his darling sweetheart, Phoebe. They shared 64 wonderful years of marriage, and now they are reunited in Heaven. It brings comfort to know he is once again by her side-perhaps sitting together in a swing, playing footsie while she blows bubbles, surrounded by family and friends who have gone before them.

Curtis was preceded in death by his loving wife: Phoebe; parents: Henry and Ruth Humphreys; and sisters: Phyllis Shipwash and Jane McClure.

He is survived by his loving children: Jeff Humphreys (Melissa) of Harriman and Rebekah Sharp of Lenoir City; grandchildren: Jennifer Phillips (Brandon), Ali Ariks (Chris), Andrew Nelson and partner Haley Lurie, and Rachel Sharp (Ary Brown); great-grandchildren: Jaxon Court, Dagon Phillips, Laci, Abby, and Madison Ariks; sisters: Pat Hughes of Ten Mile and Donna Seiler (Danny) of Harriman; as well as a host of extended family members, dear friends, and neighbors.

Services will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Emory Heights Baptist Church in Harriman. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m., with the funeral service to follow. Interment will immediately follow at Williams Family Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Ariks, Brent Pressley, Larry Tilley, Mike Hamil, Ray Patterson, Dale Dawson, Jaxon Court, and Eric Niles.

Curtis will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his love for his family, and the lasting impact he made on his community through a life well lived.

Fraker Funeral Home of Kingston is honored to serve the Humphreys family.
