Crossville Memorial – Delbert Wade Smith, born on November 3, 1958, in Crossville, TN, USA, passed away on June 4, 2025. He was a true son of Crab Orchard, Tennessee, where he built a life and a legacy. A gifted framer by trade, Delbert was instrumental in the construction of many residential and commercial buildings in the area, leaving a physical mark on the landscape he called home. His love for building wasn’t confined to his professional life; in his personal time, Delbert was an avid woodworker, a passionate music listener, knife collector, and motorcycle and dirt bike enthusiast, Delbert’s zest for life was contagious, and he brought joy to all who knew him. Delbert is survived by his loving children, Indy Smith, Toni (Logan) Wilson, Allison (Chris) Reeves, and Patrick (Brooke) Smith. He was a proud grandfather to Kierstin Haynes, Brayden Akins, Makenzie Wilson, Jeremiah Smith, Carrie Smith, Crews Reeves, Rhett Reeves, Adeline McCloud, William Smith, and Delilah Murtagh. His siblings, Fran Hassler, Jean Smith, Sue Music, Carolyn Sutton, and Joyce Smith, mourn their beloved brother. Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, Jay Brown Smith and Jewell (Pugh) Smith, wife Kay Heydman Smith, his son Cody Smith, daughter Maggie Rufin, and his brothers Edward, Donald, Dexter, and David Smith. Delbert’s life was a testament to the power of hard work, the beauty of creativity, and the strength of family ties. His spirit will live on not only in the buildings he constructed but also in the hearts of those he loved and who loved him. His memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and the community of Crab Orchard. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Crossville Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 11am-1pm, with the service to follow at 1pm, Doyle Ashburn officiating. He will be laid to rest in Leffle Webb Cemetery immediately following the service.
