Delia Emogene Scates Edgemon, 93

Delia Emogene Scates Edgemon, age 93, of Ten Mile went home to be with the Lord on May 11, 2026 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on August 7, 1932 in Knox County, TN.  She married Boyd Edgemon of Ten Mile in 1950 and moved to Roane County where she lived for 76 years.  Jean, as she was known by many, was a homemaker and raised five children. She spent much of her time working on the farm, cooking meals, gardening, canning, and sewing.  She also enjoyed fishing and helping to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she served faithfully.  She and Boyd enjoyed traveling on Shiloh’s senior bus tours.

 

Preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Boyd Edgemon; her great-granddaughter, MaKayla Guettner; her son-in-law, Dickey Oran; her parents, Henry T. Scates and Minnie Smith Scates, brothers and sisters, Helen Hackney, Lucille Burgess, Frank Scates, Henry Scates, Ruth Scates, and infant sister, Marie Scates.

Special thanks to private caregivers over the last two years: Krystal, Stacy, Kim, and Lauren and to her five devoted children.  Also, thanks to Amedisys Hospice for their special care and support during Jean’s declining health.

 

The family will receive friends 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Sunday, May 17, 2026 at Shiloh Baptist Church with funeral service following the visitation at 4:00 pm, with Rev. Adrian Jones officiating.  Interment will follow at Edgemon Cemetery.  Online register book can be signed at www.FrakerFuneralHome.net.  Fraker Funeral Home of Kingston is in charge of arrangements.
