Donnie Hyder, 82
Donnie Hyder, affectionately known as “Papa Donnie” by his family, passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined not only by personal accomplishments, but by the countless lives he touched.
Donnie was widely known as a successful businessman who founded and operated several ventures throughout his life. He was also a proud cattle and hog farmer who raised a number of champions over the years. He also believed in public service, and served as an Alderman on the Jamestown City Council. He understood the value of hard work, perseverance, and determination, approaching every endeavor with focus and drive. He believed in doing things the right way, and once he set his mind to a goal, he saw it through. His life reflected the truth of Ecclesiastes 9:10: “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might.” Yet, for all his success, what made Donnie truly remarkable was not just what he achieved, but how he lived.
His work was never solely for himself, it was about providing for others, building a legacy, and creating a life that would bless those around him. At the center of that life was his family.
As “Papa Donnie,” he was far more than a grandfather. He was a foundation; steady, strong, and dependable. He was a source of wisdom, comfort, and love. His presence brought reassurance, and his words carried weight. To those closest to him, he was “the boss,” the one who could be counted on in any situation to step in and make things right.
He embodied the principle found in 1 Timothy 5:8, not only providing in a material sense, but giving his time, his guidance, and his heart. His family was his pride and joy, and the love he poured into them will endure for generations.
Donnie was also known for his remarkable generosity. He gave freely of both his resources and himself, often going out of his way to help others or to brighten someone’s day with a thoughtful gesture. From acts as small as buying candy or hot chocolate for a child he did not know, or as grand as funding the construction of a church in India, Donnie found joy in giving to others, and made it a cornerstone of his life. As Acts 20:35 reminds us, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” and Donnie lived that truth daily. Many of the lives he touched through his generosity may never be fully known, but they remain an enduring part of his legacy.
Equally memorable was his gift for encouragement. Donnie had a unique ability to lift others up, to speak hope and confidence into their lives. He believed in people, saw their potential, and reminded them of their worth. A kind word, timely advice, or a simple expression of belief often made all the difference. As 1 Thessalonians 5:11 instructs, “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another,” Donnie faithfully lived as an encourager, building others up at every opportunity.
Above all, Donnie was a man of deep and abiding faith. His relationship with God was not merely something he professed, but something he lived out daily. His faith shaped the way he worked, the way he loved, and the way he served others. He believed in the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and sought to pass that faith on to his family and those around him, leaving a spiritual legacy that will continue to bear fruit.
In light of his passing, his family and friends find comfort in that faith, trusting that he has been welcomed home and is now at rest in the presence of the Lord.
Donnie Hyder will be remembered as a hardworking man, a devoted provider, a generous soul, a loving father and grandfather, an encourager, and a faithful Christian. His life stands as a testament to the impact one person can have through diligence, kindness, generosity, and faith.
His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, and the many lives he uplifted along the way. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
