Dorothy M. Hutzel, 87

Dorothy M. Hutzel, 87, of Fairfield Glade, TN, passed away on Tuesday, December 27th, 2022 due to complications while recovering from surgery. Born in Brooklyn, NY on August 20, 1935, and raised in Queens, Dorothy was the daughter of Emil and Kathryn (Schlitt) Lawson. After graduating from Richmond Hill High School, Dorothy was employed as an administrative assistant in Manhattan, at one point working for Sherwin Williams. After raising her three children, Dorothy worked as an administrative assistant at Macro Enterprises in Massapequa, NY for many years.
Dorothy met Leonard “Lenny” Hutzel through her brother Robert “Bob” Lawson when she would watch them compete in a company bowling league. Married in 1957, ‘Dot’ and ‘Len’ moved to North Massapequa, NY, and went on to have three children, Carol, Robert, and James. She was deeply committed to her family and enjoyed church activities, bible studies, family events, and tennis (both watching and playing). Always involved in her local church, Dorothy demonstrated a consistent passion for missions, prayer, and the spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Leonard C. Hutzel, her daughter-in-law Lynne E. Hutzel, and her granddaughter Danielle Lynne Sudmann. She is survived by her daughter Carol E. Sudmann, sons Robert A. Hutzel (Jennifer) and James L. Hutzel, four grandchildren – Alyssa Vitale (Sal), Mark Sudmann, Ryan Hutzel (Alyssa), and Bethany Hutzel, a sister-in-law Margie Lawson, and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5 at First Baptist Church of Fairfield Glade, 130 Town Centre Drive, Crossville, TN 38571.
