Dr. Harriet L Strahlman Eulogy
It’s with a very heavy heart that I lost my best friend today (10.15.25), Dr. Harriet L Strahlman. To family she was known simply as Lucy. She was my life’s companion, my wife, and the Mother of our children, 34 years of marriage that started in the mountains of North Carolina.
To those who knew Lucy knew she loved to read. I do believe our house has well over 2,000 books crammed into every bookshelf, nook and cranny and so many stored in boxes. With this love and thirst to learn, Lucy obtained a BA in Literacy and could speak 5 languages. Education did not end with her undergraduate degree as she went on to obtain a MBA, a EDS and finally a Doctorate in Exceptional Learning with her dissertation in Teaching English to non-English speaking people. Lucy didn’t just read, she loved to garden, was a master quilter and quite the artist. She loved to cook and bake. My belly is proof of this and so are all the people she baked Christmas Cookies for! She loved non-traditional, progressive thinking people and would strike up conversations with what she would call, “interesting people”. Lucy was never shy of giving her opinion and would stand her ground on what she believed was right.
Lucy was my rock and if it wasn’t for her love I would not be where I am today. As I continue my life’s adventures, I will always have Lucy in my heart. Goodbye my Love…thank you for being the best part of my life.
Lucy leaves: her Husband, John W Strahlman, Jr., two Sons and A Daughter-in-Law, John Wesley Strahlman, III and wife, Shelby, and Benjamin E. Strahlman; grandchildren, Amelia and Hazel; a Brother, William Grimes; and Sister, Sarah Leigh Marren, proceeded in death by her Father and Mother, William Nicholas Hamilton Grimes and Ora June Sears Grimes.
