Ed DeVries, 83

Hood – Ed DeVries, age 83, of Crossville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025 with his
family by his side.
He was born on January 30, 1942, in Holland, Michigan, where he was raised and later received
his PHD in Psychology from Michigan State University, and became a licensed psychologist. Ed
dedicated his life to helping others through his work and quiet wisdom. He later moved to
Illinois, where he built a loving life with his wife Dee, before retiring to Tennessee.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Dee; his son Gregory Devries and daughter-in-law
Melinda; his stepchildren Michele and Troy; and his beloved grandchildren, Ben Ritsema and
Leah Olson (Ritsema) and Nicole and Dylan (children of Michele and Troy).
He was preceded in death by his daughter Amy Ritsema, his brother Herbert DeVries, and
Sisters Marge Nykamp and Elenor Scholten.
Ed will be remembered for his kind heart, thoughtful nature, and steady presence. He loved
meaningful conversations, long walks with his wife, and playing cards with his grandchildren. He
had a gift for showing kindness to everyone he met, and for seeing the good in people and
bringing it out. Ed didn’t seek recognition for his good deeds; he did them because he believed
it was what God called him to do. His life was a quiet testimony to compassion, humility, and
faith.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday June 26, 2025 at 10am at Christ Lutheran Church in Fairfield Glade. The family has respectfully asked that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Fairfield Glade Resident Services, The American Heart Association or The Gathering Church of Fairfield Glade.
