Edwin Barton “Eddie” Dunn, 75

Edwin Barton “Eddie” Dunn was born in Savannah, Georgia to Roy Calvin and Wilma LaNelle Griffin Dunn. Known to family and friends as “Eddie,” he attended Savannah High School and later earned his GED after enlisting in the United States Army.

Eddie proudly served from 1974 to 1977 as a Specialist E-4 with the 24th Infantry Division. During his military service he was stationed at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia. He later served as Commander of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) in Crossville, Tennessee, where he remained dedicated to supporting fellow veterans.

After his military service, Eddie returned to Savannah and drove a city bus for several years. He loved the people and often shared stories about the adventures and antics along his routes. Some of these adventures included his lifelong best friend, Johnny King. After being held up twice while driving, he decided it was time for a change and moved to Tennessee.

In 1985, Eddie began working for the Tennessee Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer at Bledsoe County Correctional Complex, where he remained until retiring for medical reasons in 2012.

A friend once jokingly asked Eddie how he planned to meet someone special if he never went anywhere. “Was she just going to show up one day?” they laughed. Not long after, Eddie walked over to talk with his neighbor, Margie, who later became his wife in December 2007. Together they shared many joyful years and stood beside one another through life’s hardships, including the heartbreaking loss of Eddie’s son, Steven, in 2017.

Eddie loved God, his wife, and his family deeply. He was an avid reader who could finish a book in a day and especially enjoyed mysteries, westerns, classic cars, and studies on the Bible and theology. His “man cave” shelves were filled with classic car models he proudly collected. Eddie and Margie loved thrifting, yard sales, bookstores, nature, bird watching, laughing together, and spending time with their beloved dog, Buster. Their cat, Mae Mae, mostly just tolerates them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy C. and Wilma L. Griffin Dunn; brothers Roy C. Dunn Jr. and Robert A. Dunn; son Steven B. Dunn; and sisters-in-law Ana Dunn and Teresa Dunn.

Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Margie Dunn; daughter Stephanie Dunn; daughter-in-law Kristy Dunn; grandchildren Brittany Miller and Dakota Hayes; great-granddaughter Khaleesi Miller; siblings Danny Dunn, Mollie (David Becker), and Virginia (Chris Oody); along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Central Time, with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Bilbrey Funeral Home in Crossville, TN. Burial with Military Honor Guard presentation will follow at Crossville City Cemetery in Crossville, TN.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Simple Life Church of the Cumberlands or FOCCAS, the rescue organization where Eddie and Margie adopted their beloved dog, Buster: (https://foccas-tn.org)
