Emily Thurman Miller, 83

Emily Thurman Miller age 83 of Spring City died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, September 15, 2025.

She was born on January 26, 1942 in Spring City and was a lifetime resident of the area. Emily was little in stature but had a big smile and personality. She retired from Rhea County Circuit Court after many years. Emily was a member of First Baptist Church of Spring City where she served in various capacities through the years and was a member of the M&M’s group. She loved to read and work crossword puzzles, but her favorite was spending time with her daughter.

Emily is preceded in death by her parents G.C. and Mary McPhail Thurman, husband Max Miller, brother Leon Thurman, brother-in-law Jim Adams and special cousin Jody Thurman Barr.

Survivors include her beloved daughter and son-in-law Tammy and Bill Swafford of Spring City, Tennessee; her sister Shirley Thurman Adams of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; her special cousins Dill, Elizabeth, Grover, Gloria and families; and “Her Little Women” Laura, Amanda, Lacey, Tiffany, Brittany and families.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Connie and Cassie with Hospice of Chattanooga for their exceptional care.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at 3:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church of Spring City with Rev. Brian Price officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 21, 2025 from 1:30 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 127, Spring City, Tennessee 37381 in her memory.
