Evelyn Chancey Dew, 88
Evelyn Chancey Dew, 88, of Kingston, Tennessee died on May 30, 2026 at Community Hospice in Fernandina Beach, Florida. Evelyn moved to Florida to live near her daughter and son-in-law in 2020.
Born April 25, 1938 in McCaysville, Georgia, she was the twelfth child of Haskin and LaVada Chancey. She was preceded in death by her parents and all but one of her siblings.
In 1957 Evelyn married Linney E. Dew. Together, they built a beautiful life and celebrated 63 years of marriage. Their love story was the cornerstone of our family—a shining example of commitment, love, and joyfulness. Their faith in God grounded us all and shone for everyone who met them. Linney preceded Evelyn in death in 2020. Then in 2025 she lost her middle child, Linney E. Dew II.
Evelyn enjoyed crafts, especially crocheting, and left her legacy in so many handmade pieces of art. However, most of all her legacy was one of laughter. She enjoyed life and loved to laugh. The most common memory anyone has of her is her laughter. From playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to telling stories, she knew how to share joy.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter Kay Dew Shostak and husband Mike of Fernandina Beach, FL. Her son David Lee Dew and wife Anne Marie of Jamestown, NC. Her four grandsons and one granddaughter and five great-grandchildren. Also her sister Ann Chancey Howard of Ringgold, Georgia.
A graveside service will be held 11:00AM Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Kingston Memorial Gardens in Kingston, Tennessee.
Donations in Evelyn’s memory can be made to Community Hospice of Fernandina Beach, Florida 1348 South 18th Street, suite 101 Baptist Medical Building, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034
