From Secretary of Friends of Cumberland Mtn State Park, Laurie Snyder:
It is springtime in Cumberland County and that means fun flying kites with family and friends at the annual Kite Day at shelter 1 at Cumberland Mtn State Park, Saturday March 29th from 10:00-12:00am. Free kites are available to the first 75 children starting at 10am, provided by the sponsor Friends of Cumberland Mtn State Park (FCMSP). Free lunch for participants is provided from 11- 12:00 with hot dogs, chips, cookies and beverages. No “rain check” date.
The Friends of CMSP (FCMSP) have hosted this enjoyable event for many years. FCMSP is a tax exempt 501c3 nonprofit which provides financial and program support to the park. It is one of 40+ Friends of the State Parks groups throughout the state. FCMSP supports a variety of programs including Wonders of Monarchs and Milkweed, Trunk or Treat, a Christmas Toy Drive, Wings to Soar bird show and Natural History Educational animal shows (NHECM).
FCMSP also raises money for park needs not met by the state budget such as food for the four raptors in the aviary, two pedal boats, 100 replacement grills for the campsites and renovation of the 16 Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) picnic tables. For information about the group see Facebook.com CMSP Friends or our web page CMSPFriends.com.
