Event Details

The American Red Cross and the Nashville Predators urge donors to help increase the blood supply for hospitals by donating blood this February. People of all blood types – especially type O blood donors, the most needed blood group by hospitals – and platelet donors are needed daily to ensure blood products are available for hospitals at a moment’s notice. January brought weather conditions that canceled many blood drives throughout Tennessee, and as winter continues, the potential for additional weather challenges could disrupt blood drives and the ability to collect critically needed blood products for hospitals. More donors are needed now to ensure the blood supply remains ready for those in need of lifesaving medical procedures. The partnership with the Predators is vital for the American Red Cross. The Red Cross supplies about 40 percent of all blood products to hospitals across the nation. All blood types are needed, but there is a demand for type O negative and type O positive blood. O negative type blood is the universal donor that can be given to any patient of any blood type during emergencies. Those type O blood bags are used most by hospital emergency rooms to treat trauma patients and during surgeries. Approximately 80 percent of blood donated through the Red Cross comes from blood drives hosted by volunteer blood drive sponsors. New blood drive sponsors are always needed. Don’t wait − make an appointment to give blood or platelets by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, downloading the Red Cross Blood Donor App, or calling 1-800-RED CROSS. In thanks for helping, all who come to give in February will get a $20 Amazon.com Gift Card by email. The Nashville Predators Foundation blood donation opportunity will come to Crossville on Tuesday, February 20, 2024. It will be held in the First Methodist Church annex, located at 69 Neecham Street from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
