The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued a final policy on providing financial assistance related to COVID-19 related funeral expenses. It will now be a maximum of $9,000 per funeral.

Under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act and the American Rescue Plan Act, Congress authorized FEMA to provide financial assistance to individuals who incurred COVID-19 related funeral expenses after January 20, 2020.

FEMA is warning everyone to beware of scammers who are reaching out to people offering to register them for funeral assistance. FEMA has not sent any such notifications and they do not contact people prior to them registering for assistance.
