FLOODED ELKMONT CAMPGROUND BEING EVACUATED

Heavy rains this morning have caused flooding at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. As a result, a park spokesman has confirmed a mandatory evacuation of about 120 campsites in the Elkmont Campground.

Many campers left their equipment behind and just got out, the spokesman said, adding they plan to return once the area dries out.

A flash flood warning has been issued for Sevier County until 3 p.m. Eastern Time. The west prong of the Little Pigeon River at the Aquarium Bridge is close to flooding.

Sevier County has had more than three inches of rain from this system and flooding is a major concern. More showers are likely throughout the afternoon and evening.
