FORMER LA VERGNE POLICE CHIEF DECERTIFIED AFTER MISCONDUCT SCANDAL

Former La Vergne Police Chief Burrel Davis was decertified via unanimous vote yesterday during a meeting held by the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards & Training Commission. This effectively means Davis will no longer be able to serve as a police officer unless he is recertified.

This decision came after a scandal wherein La Vergne police officers were found to be having sexual relationships with each other, with Davis being accused by investigators of having full knowledge of the activity and actively covering it up.

Davis claims he didn’t know of the sexual relationships going on between officers until the 2022 investigation, but says he cooperated with city investigators. City investigators didn’t find Davis guilty of any wrongdoing, but Davis claims outside investigators began pointing accusations at him.

He would be fired and would try to file suit against the city of La Vergne on the grounds of racial discrimination.
