NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The estranged husband of country singer Sara Evans is arrested after a domestic violence incident this weekend.

Harry Jerome Barker, better known as retired NFL football player Jay Barker, was booked into the Davidson County Jail just after 4 a.m. Saturday for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The victim is listed as his wife Sara Barker, aka country music singer Sara Evans.

Barker is behind bars after reportedly attempting to ram a car Evans and a friend were in outside her home in the Oak Hill area of Nashville, according to the police affidavit. Evans states he intentionally tried to hit them.

Evans tells police that the incident occurred as a friend drove her home from a party she had attended across the street at a neighbor’s house. As they crossed the threshold of the driveway, she said Barker reversed his vehicle at a high rate of speed attempting to hit them but missed.

Police say they are still attempting to obtain warrants due to the domestic relationship, and witness corroboration.

Barker left jail Saturday night after posting bond.

Evans and Barker are married but separated and live separately, according to the affidavit. They were married in 2008.
