FORMER TITAN EDDIE GEORGE NAMED HEAD COACH AT TENNESSEE STATE

Eddie George is the latest former star player to become a head coach at the collegiate level.

The Tennessee Titans great was named the next head coach at Tennessee State University (TSU) in Nashville. George will join Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who is coaching at Jackson State, as former NFL players now coaching college football.

Tennessee State and Jackson State face each other every year in the Southern Heritage Classic.

TSU officials made the announcement this morning, one day after the university said it would not be renewing head coach Rod Reed’s contract.

George, a top-tier running back out of Ohio State, is a College Football Hall of Famer, and a four-time Pro Bowl selection. George played for the Titans from 1996 until 2003, making four consecutive Pro Bowl appearances. He became the second NFL running back to rush for 10,000 yards, while never missing a start, behind Jim Brown. He retired from the NFL in 2004 as a member of the Dallas Cowboys.
