Francis Larry Oran, 88

Francis Larry Oran, age 88 of Harriman, passed away Thursday night, May 7, 2026, at his home. He was a member of South Harriman Baptist Church where throughout the years he served as a Choir Member, Deacon, Sunday School Director, Teacher, Youth Director, and Bus Ministry. He was also a member of the Pulpit Personnel Supply Group for the Big Emory Baptist Association.

Larry served in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Naval Air Station, North Island, in San Diego, California where he met his wife Geraldine to whom he was married for 64 1/2 years. Larry worked for DOD & DOE as a Senior Systems Specialist and Data Analyst in the Nuclear Division. He was appointed to President Ronald Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative Team (Star Wars) in 1983.

After retiring, Larry founded Oran Software Development where he designed and developed an Administrative Software System for K-12 schools he named TERM (Total Educational Records Management). He enjoyed creating new and more helpful tools by working daily with the school staff and personnel that used his software.

One of Larry’s many hobbies was woodworking. Using exotic woods, he made many different styles of clocks, jewelry and keepsake boxes, decorative pen and pencil sets, electric guitars and many other things for his family and friends. He also made several unique furniture items that he gifted to the church.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Geraldine Oran, daughter and son-in-law Angelique & Allen McCollum, son Jeremy Oran and girlfriend Angela Herald, granddaughter Madison Oran, grandson Austin Johnson and fiancée Alexandria Brock, and grandson Garrett Oran.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, May 18, 2026 at South Harriman Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 7:00 pm with Reverend Edsel West and Pastor James Griffith officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Roane Memorial Gardens with Military honors. The family will be gathering at the graveside.
