George Douglas Watson (Tuffy)

Husband, father, and friend George Douglas Watson (Tuffy) passed away peacefully on 8/8/2023 surrounded by loved ones at the age of 65.

In 1976 Doug met the love of his life Linda while circling the A&W in his hot rod and 3 years later they decided to get married and started their life together. They spent 44 wonderful years together.

Starting his career in public service in 1982, Doug served the people of Sweetwater and Monroe County for 37 years through the way of police officer, detective, fire chief, sheriff, and county commissioner.

As the true sportsman he was, Doug loved the outdoors. Whether it was listening to a rabbit race with his prized beagles or claiming the trophy buck he was able to find joy in every aspect of God’s creation.

Doug was a proud member of Lodge no. 280 of the Independent Order of OddFellows and former member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Fire Chief Association, and the Sheriff’s Association.

Doug is survived by his wife Linda; children Angela, Craig, Shane, and Alexa; his grandchildren Hunter, Lilah, and Oliver which he loved very much, along with his siblings Debbie, Betty, Essie and Timmy and many others close friends. He was once known as Sheriff but his proudest name he went by was Pops.

Doug’s life will be celebrated on Thursday 8/10/2023 with a receiving of friends from 5PM to 7PM at Fairview Baptist Tabernacle Church with the celebration of life service to begin at 7:00P.M., with Rev. Denny Moore officiating. He will be laid to rest the following day on Friday 8/11/2023 at 11AM in the Sweetwater Memorial Park in Sweetwater. In leu of flowers please donate to the Dementia Society of America. Special thanks to those at Adoration Hospice.
