GREAT-NIECE OF LEGENDARY TENNESSEE COACH MURDERED IN NEW YORK CITY
The 18-year-old great-niece of legendary Tennessee coach Johnny Majors was fatally stabbed Wednesday night in New York City.
Officers say Tessa Majors, a freshman at Barnard College, was walking in Manhattan’s Morningside Park when she was attacked and stabbed during a robbery.
Majors was transported to a hospital where she passed away from injuries sustained.
“We lost a very special, very talented, and very well-loved young woman,” the Majors’ family said in a statement. “Tess shone bright in this world, and our hearts will never be the same.”
Police say a 13-year-old boy has confessed in the stabbing death of Majors. He was taken into custody.
Police found the 13-year-old while canvassing the area near Morningside Park. The boy was caught in the lobby of a building at Manhattan Avenue and 119th Street. He was wearing clothes that matched the description of the suspect, sources said. Police arrested him for criminal trespass and during a search found he was carrying a knife.
