Knoxville Police has charged 22-year-old Caelan Greenfield with first-degree murder in a fatal shooting early this morning.

Greenfield reportedly called 911 to report that he had shot his girlfriend on the 7900 block of Gleason Drive around 12:30 a.m. today.

Greenfield fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers. Authorities found a 21-year-old female victim deceased inside of her vehicle with a wound to the chest. Greenfield returned to the scene while officers were still there and attempted to leave in a vehicle. He was taken into custody after a short pursuit.

Greenfield was initially placed on a $250,000 bond.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
