Gregory Stuart Wenger, 79

Fairfield Glade, TN – Gregory Stuart Wenger, age 79, of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2026. He was born in Monroe, Wisconsin, the son of Walter R. Wenger and Ruth E. (Ziltner) Wenger. He was a devoted husband of almost 59 years to his beloved wife, Jane Chase Wenger, and a proud father to his two sons, Bryan and Brent Wenger, and a cherished grandfather to Miles, Cole, Weston, Adella, Gideon and Carson who brought him immense joy.

He grew up in New Glarus, Wisconsin and was a high school athlete, being on the football, basketball and golf teams throughout his four years. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, he and Jane opened a men’s clothing store in Monroe, WI, then subsequently a women’s clothing store, another men’s store in Fort Atkinson, WI and then took over his father’s clothing store in New Glarus, WI. After selling the stores, he was a Manager with Sear’s stores until his retirement in 2010.

Greg loved the game of golf, beginning in his teenage years. Later he was teaching his sons the game as soon as they could walk and hold a golf club. He made lasting friendships on the golf course, and enjoyed playing many rounds with his father Walt, father-in-law Bill and brother-in-laws, Tom and Larry. Finding his retirement community of Fairfield Glade, with five golf courses, was his ultimate dream. He made many new friends here, including while working part-time in the pro shop at Fairfield Glade’s Stonehenge Golf Course. He was also a sports enthusiast who enjoyed Wisconsin Badger sports, the Green Bay Packers and the PGA tour.

Greg is survived by his wife, Jane, two sons and their wives, Bryan (Melissa), and Brent (Cathleen) and six grandchildren, sister-in-law Nancy Nolan (Danville, CA), sister-in-law Jean Westphal and brother-in law Larry Westphal (Castle Pines, CO) and five nephews, their spouses and children He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws William and Alice Chase, brother-in-law Tom Nolan and family friend, Tom Beales.

Greg will be remembered as a genuinely kind and considerate man who loved his family, friends and being on “the first tee”!

There will be a Celebration of Life at Hood Funeral Home, 2371 Highway 127 South, Crossville, TN on August 15 with visitation from 1:00-3:00 and service at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fairfield Glade Fire Department EMR, P.O.Box 1547, Crossville, TN 38558 in Greg’s honor.
