HIGH SPEED CHASE IN WAYNE COUNTY, KENTUCKY RESULTS IN ARREST OF WEST

A high-speed vehicle pursuit last night led to a Wayne County, Kentucky man being arrested on numerous charges. Wayne County Sheriff Department Deputies Jerry Meadows and Derek Dennis were following up on a lead from Monticello Police Department of a possible location of a stolen vehicle in the Eadsville community. The deputies located a vehicle fitting the description traveling on Kentucky Highway 789 towards Monticello. Upon verifying this was the reported stolen vehicle the deputies activated their emergency equipment to make a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Eric I. West of Monticello, then sped up to a high rate of speed crossing into the opposite lane of traffic almost striking another vehicle. After a short pursuit, West lost control of the vehicle taking out fences on both sides of the roadway. West reportedly refused the deputies commands to exit the vehicle causing them to break out a window to remove West from the vehicle. West continued to resist arrest as the deputies gained control.

Deputy Derek Dennis arrested West for theft by unlawful taking or disposition a vehicle, first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs (aggravating circumstances), driving on a suspended or revoked license and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.

West was taken to the Wayne County Hospital for treatment and then was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
