JACK “CLYDE” SMITH, AGE 96

Jack “Clyde” Smith, age 96, of Rockwood, passed away August 1, 2021. He was born April 11, 1925, in Alabama. He was a merchant marine under the U.S. Coast Guard. He served in North Africa and at Normandy during D-Day invasion. He continued his career with Merchant Marine and traveled the world around 7 times. Afterwards, he joined his brother back home running the Trading Post on Rockwood Mountain for over 40 years. He was a devoted Catholic his entire life and enjoyed working in the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Harry Monroe and Sarah Margaret Stallings-Smith; and brothers: Perry, Joe, Woodrow, Clyde, and Cecil Smith.
He is survived by his brother: James D. Smith (Wanda) of Rockwood; nephew: David Smith (Debbie) of Smyrna and Butch Smith of Alabama; niece: Mildred Ann Caldwell of Alabama; great-nephews: Jimmy Caldwell of Alabama and Jamison Smith (Summer) of Maryville; great-niece: Marjorie M. Smith of Murfreesboro; and great-great nephew: Parker Smith of Maryville.

Family and friends will meet Saturday, August 7, 2021, at 10 a.m. for funeral Mass at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Harriman. A private family entombment will be held at a later date. Evans Mortuary in Rockwood is serving the family.
