James M. Oakes, age 82, of Crossville, TN, passed away on  July 21, 2023 at Cumberland Medical Center.

Mr. Oakes was born on March 18, 1941, in Crossville, TN, son of the late Clifford Oakes and Willie (Lee) Oakes.

James worked as a Laborer in a rock quarry.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Etta (Bradshaw) Oakes; children, Anthony Oakes, Timothy Shayne Oakes, Melissa Oakes, Rodney Oakes (Candy); grandchildren, Eric Oakes, Amanda Newcome (Michael), Tyler Pelfrey (Ashley),

Dakota Blackmon (Melissa), Jessica Oakes, Brandon Reed, Brittany Reed, Greg (Bubba) Oakes, Cody Dodd, Austin Oakes, Alex May, Zack May, Tracy Eliason;

great grandchildren, Brodix Newcome, Shelby Newcome, Lane Pelfrey, Raylan Pelfrey, Carsen Blackmon, Maddy Belle Blackmon, Marley Blackmon; sister, Edwina Davidson.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Gregory Oakes; grandchildren, Joshua Oakes and Anthony James Oakes; siblings, Howard Oakes

and Martha Emogene Overbay.

Funeral Service will be held at Bilbrey Funeral Home on Monday, July 24, 2023, at 3:00 PM with burial to follow at Oakes Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Bilbrey Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
