James Robert “Hoss” Hull, age 89

James Robert “Hoss” Hull, age 89, of Monterey, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023, at Tennessee State Veterans’ Home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. Hoss was born on July 21, 1933, in Armathwaite, Fentress County, Tennessee, to the late Roy Robert and Ellen Hurst Hull. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife, Louise Freeman Hull; Sister, Janet Rhea Hull; Brother, David C. Stansell; and Niece, Paula Teeple Hackett. He is survived by his Sister, Gena E. (Teeple) Hull; Brother and Sister-in-Law, Dan and Janice Stansell; Nephews, Steve Geny, James Stansell, Matt Stansell, and Greg Teeple; Grand-nieces, Sarah Geny, Melanie Mora, Rachel (Hackett) Moseley, Jessica (Teeple) Pape-Green, Elise Stansell, and Shelby Stansell; Grand-nephews, Stacey Geny, Ryan Mora, Colten Stansell, and Seth Teeple. He is additionally survived by innumerable and greatly-loved friends and extended family members. Hoss enjoyed sports, primarily football while growing up in Monterey and was very proud to be a member of the Class A championship Monterey High School football team in 1951. Following high school, he honorably served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After his military service, he lived and worked in Tennessee, eventually moving to Texas where he met and married Louise. He remained in Texas for 35 years, becoming the General Manager of J-Tec Telecommunications in Dallas. Following Louise’s death and his retirement from J-Tec, Hoss’s greatest wish was to return to his hometown of Monterey so that he could live out his remaining days reconnecting with old friends and making new ones, all of which he did quite easily. He was perhaps best known for his readiness to tell a joke or relay a funny story from the past, as well as for his quick smile and giving heart. Even in his final days, nothing pleased him more than eliciting laughter from nurses and physical therapists. The family wishes to offer special thanks to Jeremy Moseley for his invaluable personal assistance and to the nurses and staff of the Tennessee State Veterans’ Home for their kindness and care shown to Hoss while he was there.

His wishes of cremation are being honored with Celebration of Life Services to be held at Goff Funeral Home on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at 3:00 PM with Wanda Baisley officiating.
