John Claude Hamilton, lovingly known as “Hippy,” was born on September 21, 1944, in Kingston, Tennessee, to the late Willis and Helen Hamilton. He was called home by the Divine on Monday, August 26, 2024. His spirit touched the hearts of many, and his presence was a beacon of warmth and love in his community.

John’s gift of song was a reflection of his soulful and passionate nature. His performances, particularly of the cherished hymn “I Won’t Complain,” resonated deeply with those who had the privilege to hear him. This song, in many ways, was a testament to his resilient spirit and unwavering strength.

John and his soulmate, Betty, embarked on a journey of love and family. Their union brought forth two beloved children, and they nurtured their family in the heart of Roane County. John’s faith was unwavering, as he was a devoted member of Braxton Chapel AME Zion Church in Kingston, Tennessee.

John is preceded in death by his cherished wife Betty Jewell Pankey Hamilton, his children Theresa Sprow and Jonathan Hamilton, his parents Helen and Willis Hamilton, his sister Diane Hamilton, and his brother Clarence Hamilton.

Yet, his legacy endures through those he loves and who love him in return. He leaves behind his beloved granddaughter, Patrice Peyton (Kevin), and his great-grandsons, Levi and Jovi Peyton. He is also remembered by his devoted son-in-law, Marshall Sprow; his sisters Billie Hamilton, Shirley Hamilton, and Mamie Hamilton; his brothers Willis “Buddy” Hamilton and Don Hamilton (Gail); as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.

John’s memory is a sacred treasure, and his spirit will forever illuminate the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing him.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Kyker Funeral Home in Kingston, TN. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon with Rev. Tonja Warren officiating and the Eulogy by Rev. Lionel Moore. Kyker Funeral Home of Kingston is serving the Hamilton Family.
