John Robert Dunn, 82, of Chickamauga passed away Wednesday, November 5th, 2025 surrounded by his family. John was born May 29th, 1943 in Nashville, TN to the late Robert and Claudine Dunn. He has been a lifelong North Georgia/ TN resident and member of Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and graduated from UTC Class of 1974. John worked for Combustion Engineering for 10 years before moving to TVA and retiring after 28 years of service. John was a very mechanically minded man who loved to craft and fix anything especially old cars. He was a self-taught musician who learned to play bass guitar and served as a former Choir Director at Lookout Baptist Church and as Interim Choir Director at other local churches for several years.

John is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Hannah Sue Bruning.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Sue Anne Dunn; children, Nita (Walter) Bruning and Dottie (Greg) Ray; grandchildren, Jody (Lauren) Bruning, John Davis, and Rachel (Mike) Woodburn; sister, Helen Dunn; niece, Melanie Morgan; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Hudson, Hayden Bruning and Anna Woodburn.

Funeral services will be Sunday, November 9th at 3PM, at Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Carroll officiating and Dr. Fred Steelman, Rev. Tom Whitsett, and Jacob Carr also serving. Interment will be at Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hannah Bruning Memorial Scholarship Foundation in care of Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church.

Family will receive friends Saturday, November 8th from 3-6 PM at Heritage Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe and Sunday, November 9th from 1:30 – 3 PM prior to the service at Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church.
