JOHNSON CONVICTED OF ATTEMPTED MURDER AFTER SHOOTING HIS WIFE

The district attorney’s office says a McMinn County man has been convicted in the attempted murder of his wife, who he mistakenly thought was cheating on him.

In July 2022, officers say Jan Johnson’s wife was exiting a bathroom when he shot her twice.

The wife asked why she had been shot and the district attorney says Johnson told her it was because she “had been cheating on him” which turned out not to be true.

Johnson was convicted on Wednesday of attempted first-degree murder and employment of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous offense.

A sentencing hearing will be held on May 10, 2024, in McMinn County court. The judge revoked the bond for Johnson so he will remain in jail until the sentencing.
