‘LETHAL WEAPON’ AND ‘GOONIES’ DIRECTOR RICHARD DONNER PASSES AWAY AT 91

Richard Donner, a Hollywood director and producer known for his films like the “Lethal Weapon” franchise, “The Goonies” and the original “Superman” movie starring Christopher Reeves, passed away yesterday. He was 91.

Born Richard Donald Schwartzberg in the Bronx, Donner attended junior college before landing at the famed NYU, where he majored in business and theater.

He broke out in Hollywood in 1976 directing “The Omen,” starring Gregory Peck.

In 1982, he directed “The Goonies.”

With his wife, Lauren Shuler Donner, whom Donner married in 1986, the pair were frequently a producing powerhouse and Donner would go on to make “Free Willy” and “The Lost Boys”

Donner executive produced “X-Men” in 2000 and the prequel “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”

One of the many highlights of Donner’s career included the “Lethal Weapon” movie series, which starred Mel Gibson and Danny Glover.
