MAN ARRESTED FOR SHOOTING BELMONT UNIVERSITY STUDENT

The Nashville District Attorney’s Office says a man arrested for shooting a Belmont University student was previously ruled incompetent to stand trial in a different incident.

Officers say Jillian Ludwig was shot in the head yesterday afternoon while walking on a track in the Edgehill Memorial Gardens Park. Police say the shot came from across the street.

Officials say Ludwig has a very small chance of survival.

Law enforcement named 29-year-old Shaquille Taylor as the person responsible for the shooting. He was initially charged with aggravated assault and tampering with evidence. Officers say Taylor fired shots at a car when a bullet hit Ludwig.

Arrest records indicate Taylor was arrested two months ago for felony auto theft.

Earlier this year, Taylor was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but those charges were dropped.

In that case, court-appointed doctors unanimously testified that Taylor was incompetent to stand trial. Judge Angelita Dalton had to dismiss the case. Because the doctors did not find Taylor met the standards for involuntary commitment, he was released from custody on May 19.

Taylor is being held in the Davidson County Jail on a $280,000 bond.
