MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER AFTER SHOOTING IN KNOXVILLE
Benjamin Shuttlesworth, 47, was charged with attempted murder, while multiple firearms were recovered following a shooting incident that happened Saturday night on Hawthorne Avenue.
At around 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to the 200 block of Hawthorne Avenue on a report of shots fired. It was reported that the suspects left the scene in a dark-colored Cadillac sedan, which responding officers quickly spotted and stopped. The driver, identified as Benjamin Shuttlesworth, and two passengers were detained for further investigation.
A subsequent search resulted in the discovery of four loaded handguns, including one reported stolen in Pennsylvania, while responding officers also located a loaded shotgun in the middle of the road at the original crime scene on Hawthorne.
The investigation revealed that Shuttlesworth was angry at the 41-year-old female victim when he fired multiple rounds at and in her direction before leaving the scene. The victim was not struck by the gunfire.
Further investigation revealed that Shuttlesworth also had an outstanding warrant out of Knox County for aggravated domestic assault
In addition to the outstanding warrant, Shuttlesworth was charged with attempted first-degree murder, felony reckless endangerment, and felony vandalism among other charges.
