MAN IN CUSTODY AFTER REPORTS OF SHOTS FIRED AT A RESIDENCE

Monday night, just after 7 PM, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to the 2900 block of Sunset Avenue after a resident reported that someone shot at their house. The caller provided a description of the suspect and the car the suspect was driving. Minutes later, Community Engagement Response Team officers located the car and stopped it in the 2600 block of Sunset. The driver, identified as 38-year-old Robert Pannell, was detained and ultimately identified as the suspect.

Pannell allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired shots after an argument with the residents of the home on Sunset. Nobody was struck by the gunfire. A handgun was recovered in the area where Pannell had driven following the shooting. Pannell was charged with aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, and weapons charges, including a convicted felon in possession of a weapon.
