MARY BOWEN HENRICI CEURVORST, AGE 87
Mary Bowen Henrici Ceurvorst was born on January 28, 1939, the sixth of seven children born to Bernard and Hazel Delaney Bowen and died on March 20, 2026, in Crossville. Mary chose cremation, and the remains will be kept in the columbarium at St. Francis of Assisi in Fairfield Glade.
Mary was educated in the parochial school system in Champaign, Illinois, and then graduated from Champaign High in 1956. Mary moved to Chicago after graduation and met and married Robert Henrici. They later divorced. Mary worked in computer maintenance and installation in hospitals and car dealerships for Reynolds and Reynolds out of Dayton, Ohio. Her job moved her to Bettendorf, Iowa. where she met Gerard Ceurvorst. They married in 1983. Mary worked at Bettendorf High School in the media area. She was a volunteer at St Luke’s Hospital and presided over the volunteers during the merger of Mercy and St Luke’s Hospital auxiliaries into the Genesis auxiliary.
Mary and her husband Gerard, retired to Fairfield Glade in 2005. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church. Mary was an avid Iowa football and men’s basketball fan. She enjoyed sewing, golf, and bowling, and when she could no longer do those, she played mah-Jongg, bridge and other card games. Mary is a past president of Neighbors and Newcomers of Cumberland County and a former member of The Ladies Club.
Mary is survived by her husband; son: Robert (Bonnie) Henrici of Florida; daughter-in-law: Kelly Henrici of Ohio; grandson: Matthew (Kelly A) with Mary’s great granddaughter, Gianna and great-grandson, Nicholas William of Kentucky; stepchildren: Joseph (Shelly) Ceurvorst of Colorado, John (Tami) Ceurvorst of California, Jeff (Erin) Ceurvorst of Colorado, Gerard R (Heather) Ceurvorst, and Jane E and (Chris) Ceurvorst-Darnell of North Carolina; step-grandchildren: Alexandra FL and Garrett MT, Kaileigh, Cassandra (Kyle), Katrina and Caed in CA, Madeline and Courtney in CO, Bailey, Gabe and Colin in SC, and Ethan Ceurvorst in NC. Mary is also survived by a sister Bonnie Hudson in Champaign, IL and several nephews and nieces.
Mary was preceded in death by her son: Nicholas Henrici; her parents and brothers: William, Jack, and Mike Bowen; and sisters: Betty Bowen Rahn Gurley, and Shirley Bowen Stanley.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
