Mary Ellen Hovater, 78
Mary Ellen Hovater, a devoted Christian woman whose life was marked by faith, love, and service to others, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, at the age of 78.
Born on October 28, 1947, in San Francisco, California, she lived a life rooted in kindness and compassion. Her faith in Christ guided her every step and was evident in the way she loved and cared for those around her. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond Hovater, whom she cherished deeply and with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership.
She was a proud and devoted mother to four children, Curtis, Crystal, Ashley and Tyson, who were the center of her world. Her joy multiplied with the arrival of her five grandchildren, Rhett, Scarlett, Casper, Farrah and Herschel, each of whom she adored beyond measure. She will be remembered as a steady source of encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional love to her family.
For many years, she worked as a hairdresser, a profession perfectly suited to her warm spirit and creative heart. She had a gift not only for styling hair, but for listening, comforting, and making people feel seen and valued. Many clients became lifelong friends.
Mary was also known for her love of sports and Mountain Dew and was rarely seen without one in her hand. This gave her a fun and whimsical side that was enjoyed by all.
She had a special love for the color blue, which reflected her calm presence, gentle strength, and peaceful nature. Those who knew her best will remember her grace, her quiet resilience, and her unwavering faith.
Mary was a beautiful woman on the inside and outside and the energy she created around herself was beautiful to all who encountered her. We love you Mary.
She is survived by her four children, five grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends whose lives were touched by her love. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is reunited with her husband and resting in the arms of her Savior.
