Kentucky State Police say a 2-year-old child died after being assaulted by a man in McCreary County.

Troopers responded to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset after getting a call regarding a child there with life-threatening injuries.

The girl was then taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital where she died last night.

Investigators say the two-year-old was assaulted by 27-year-old Michael Cody Huff of Whitley City. He was arrested initially for assault. Additional charges are possible.
