MEMPHIS POLICE MOTORCYCLIST PASSES AWAY IN VEHICLE ACCIDENT

A Memphis police officer tragically lost his life in a vehicle accident late yesterday afternoon.

Law enforcement responded to a crash at Hickory Hill Road and Swaying Pine Lane involving a police department motorcycle and a civilian operating a Nissan. The officer, identified as 47-year-old Scotty Triplett, was transported to the hospital in critical condition but did not survive his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the motorist in the Nissan was traveling southbound on Hickory Hill Road to make a left turn onto Swaying Pine Lane and pulled into the pathway of Officer Triplett. He was traveling northbound on Hickory Hill Road. Officer Triplett then struck the right front side of the Nissan.

The driver of the Nissan, who was not initially identified, was detained. No charges have been filed at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

Triplett has been with the Memphis Police Department since August of 1993. Authorities ask you keep his wife, children, family, and the men and women of the Memphis Police Department in your prayers.
