Murfreesboro police say a 21-year-old male was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center after severing his hand. He was attempting to shoot fireworks from the sunroof of a car when it happened last night near Forrest Drive and North Highland Boulevard. Officers say a mortar exploded in a tube the man was holding in his hand. Medics explored the area in an attempt to preserve parts of the man’s hand but did not discover anything. A 20-year-old female who was additionally in the vehicle sustained minor burns to her neck and upper back and complained of ear pain.
