Mrs. Mona Powell, age 95, a longtime resident of the Dry Hill Community of Rockwood, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at her home with her family by her side. She was born November 26, 1930, in the Boswell Chapel Community of Morgan County, Tennessee. Mrs. Powell was a member of the Mt. Teman Baptist Church in Rockwood. She assisted her husband for many years, who was a noted and accomplished artisan and wood carver. Most of all she was a hard-working woman, and a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Houston & Blanche Watson; husband, Walter T. Powell; daughter-in-law, Patty Powell; brothers, Alvin Watson, and Billy Watson; and sisters, Vannie Underwood, Dorothy “Dot” Summers, Irene Helton, and Gladys Dalton.

And a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and friends.

The family will receive friends Monday, September 14, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Evans Mortuary. Funeral services will follow on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Evans Mortuary with Pastor Keith Woodby officiating. Family and friends will meet on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Pine Orchard Cemetery in Oakdale, Tennessee for Graveside services and interment.
