MONTGOMERY COUNTY RECORDS FIRST CHRONIC WASTING DISEASE CASE IN DEER
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency confirmed Montgomery County’s first chronic wasting disease case in a hunter-harvested deer.
Current hunting seasons and regulations remain unchanged because the county sits outside the official CWD Management Zone. However, the Earn-a-Buck incentive program is now active, allowing hunters to earn extra buck tags by submitting antlerless deer for testing.
Free CWD testing is available statewide through participating taxidermists, meat processors, and drop-off freezers. Officials urge hunters to continue submitting samples to support ongoing disease surveillance.
