MOUNT CARMEL MAYOR CHARGED WITH THEFT OVER $250,000
The TBI says the mayor of Mount Carmel, Tennessee in Hawkins County is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from his grandmother.
TBI agents began investigating allegations of theft against 48-year-old Christopher Scott Jones. During the investigation, agents discovered Jones stole more than $300,000 from his grandmother and her estate by writing checks from her account to himself for false reimbursements.
The Hawkins County Grand Jury indicted Jones with one count of theft over $250,000. Jones was transported to the Hawkins County Jail and initially placed under $300,000 bond.
