MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS ON I-40 IN PUTNAM COUNTY LOCKS UP TRAFFIC FOR HOURS

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says multiple accidents yesterday afternoon on I-40 in Putnam County locked up traffic for hours.

The first involved a 2015 Kia Soul driven by 19-year-old Nicholas Grasso of Cookeville. Trooper Willie Allison says Grasso was traveling west near the 293 mile marker when his vehicle hydroplaned and left the road. The Kia flipped over several times down an embankment and came to rest after impacting a rock wall. Grasso was restrained and was not hurt.

Just over an hour later, a 1999 Chevy Silverado operated by 58-year-old Elizabeth Wales of Nashville was traveling west near the 297 mile marker when she lost control and struck a concrete barrier. Wales was restrained and escaped injury.

A third accident took place around the same time at the 295 westbound mile marker. The report has not been released yet by the highway patrol.
