This morning, famed Japanese Video game company Nintendo announced the official successor to its incredibly popular line of hybrid portable consoles, the Nintendo Switch 2. Within the trailer showing off the system was also a teaser for a new Mario Kart title seemingly in development.

The original Nintendo Switch sold over 146 million units worldwide.

The new Switch features a larger redesigned screen and larger redesigned controllers, much more powerful hardware, and full backward compatibility allowing it to play existing Nintendo Switch games.

Developers in the industry who have spent time with the system have compared its specs to the Playstation 4 Pro, making it very powerful for a portable system.

Also featured is a new USB-C port next to a 3.5mm headphone jack, a new rounded U-shaped kickstand, and a controller grip to snap the joy-con controllers onto similar to the original Switch. Overall, an improvement across the board, from what has been seen so far.

The Nintendo Switch 2 doesn’t have a specified release date as of yet but is confirmed it will launch this year.
