Mr. Obert Ellis, age 98, of the Mt. Helen Community, passed away Friday, February
14, 2025 at Signature Healthcare of Fentress County.
Mr. Ellis was born March 26, 1926 to Virgil and Etta (Sewell) Ellis at home in Mt.
Helen. He served in the US Army at 18 years old, beginning in August, 1944 and fought
for his country in World War II until it ended in September 1945. He returned to Mt. Helen
and married the love of his life, Lela (Bow) on December 21, 1946. To this union were
born five children.
Mr. Ellis is survived by:
1 Daughter: Myra Koger
2 Sons: Paul Ellis and wife Sharon
Stephen Ellis and wife Lana
3 Grandsons: Jason Koger and wife Sheena
Benjamin Ellis and wife Charis
Landon Ellis and wife Ashley

5 Granddaughters: Talitha Koger and special friend, Dallas Fielden

DeLeah Roysdon and husband Eric
Paula Witt and husband John
Leslie Patton and husband Stephen
Sarah McDonald and husband Ryan

17 Great-grandchildren: Jaleigh Koger

Nora, Sam and Kate Ellis

James, George, Eva and Johnny Witt
Elgie and Liem Porter
Andalyn, Rowan and Brylee McDonald

Parents: Virgil and Etta (Sewell) Ellis
Loving Wife: Lela (Bow) Ellis
2 Daughters: Glenda Ellis and Valerie Choate Stone
2 Sons-in-law: Wallace Choate and Ronald Stone

1 Great-Granddaughter: Kyleigh Roysdon
6 Sisters: Elma Cole, Rheba Ellis, Ola Tompkins, Lona Sewell,

Veta Tompkins and Neva Ellis

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt.
Helen United Baptist Church with Bro. Brady Goad and Bro. Vernon Goad officiating.
Burial will be in the Mt. Helen Cemetery.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. at
the Mt. Helen United Baptist Church.
