Omer C. Phillips, age 92, a resident of Oliver Springs, died November 30, 2024 at his home.

Mr. Phillips was born on the 17^th day of June 1932 in the Frost Bottom Community in Anderson County. He had lived in Roane County since 1957.

Omer worked as a coal truck driver for Walls and Coker Company. He later worked for X-10 National Lab in Oak Ridge for 20 years. He also worked for Roane County Solid Waste Department. His love for sports carried over to coaching football and baseball, leading several baseball teams to the state tournaments. Following his coaching career, he refereed high school football and umpired softball and baseball all over East Tennessee for over 25 years.

He was a faithful Christian, Deacon, and active member of New Fairview Baptist Church.

Mr. Phillips is preceded in death by his parents, James Monroe Phillips and Elsie Davis Phillips; brothers, Larry Meredith and Glen Phillips; sisters, Evelyn Messer, Ashia Seiber, Selma Dean Collett, and Jackie Phillips.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wanda Fay Gaylor Phillips of Oliver Springs; son, Michael (Mike) Anthony Phillips of Oliver Springs; granddaughter, Morgan Phillips of Knoxville, TN; sister, Jean Carter of Oliver Springs.  He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of special friends.

Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Premier Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs. He will lie in state from 1-2 pm on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at New Fairview Baptist Church until the hour of service at 2 pm. Burial will immediately follow in New Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor John Edwards, Rev. Jeff Parrott, and Rev. Steve Seiber will be officiating.
