PICKETT COUNTY BOBCATS DEFEAT COSBY TO MOVE INTO STATE FINAL FOUR – FULL STORY

The Pickett County Bobcats defeated Cosby yesterday 63 to 56 to move into the Class A Final Four. They will face MAHS tomorrow morning (Friday, March 19, 2021) at 11:30 a.m. central at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro. A win tomorrow will send the Bobcats to the title game Saturday morning.

Zack Amonett led the Bobcats in scoring with 27 points. He was followed by Will Amonett with 16, Hunter Wattenbarger with 8 and Slayde Copeland and Caleb Lawhorn with 6 points each.

The Bobcats shot 21 of 51 from the court and 7 of 12 for three points. They made 14 of 20 free throw attempts.

Cosby was ahead in the game at the end of the 1st by the score of 11 to 10.

That was as close as they got.

In the second period, Pickett County turned up the scoring and went into halftime leading 32 to 29. Both teams scored 15 points each in the third. In the fourth, Pickett County added 16 points while Cosby scored 12. The largest lead for the Bobcats was 10 points in the 4th.

Pickett County led the game for just over 21 minutes while Cosby had the lead for just over 7. The lead changed 9 times in the game while the score was tied 7 times in the contest.

Looking ahead at tomorrow’s Final Four, Pickett County will face MAHS. A win against them will put the Bobcats into the championship game Saturday at 11 a.m. central time in Murfreesboro.

What is interesting is this: should Clay County defeat North Greene in the other semifinal game tomorrow morning prior to the Pickett County/MAHS game and if the Bobcats win tomorrow, it will mean Pickett County will play Clay County Saturday with the Class A State Championship on the line.

This is going to be a very interesting Final Four in Class A tomorrow!
