PLANE MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING ON I-640 IN KNOXVILLE

No injuries or damage was reported this morning after a small plane ran out of gas and was forced on I-640 East near Washington Pike in Knoxville.

The Cessna 172 with a pilot and two passengers on board took off from Sky Ranch Airport near Alcoa Highway and was on the way to Island Home Airport in South Knoxville.

The plane was refueled after a friend of the pilot brought fuel.

Authorities then blocked the interstate, giving the pilot enough space to safely take off around 10:45 a.m. eastern.
